Oxford Farmers Market – Lambing Season
Please see below information for one of great our stall holders at Oxford Farmers Market (Gloucester Green):
Hello
This week has been a little on the surreal side . . . starting with speaking to Jeremy Vine on BBC Radio2, and being filmed by BBC Oxford in the lambing barns about how we are coping with the threat of the Schmallenberg virus affecting our sheep flock once we start lambing, and ending with putting all the ewes and lambs that were born in January outside for the first time, one of our favourite jobs! It is very hard to describe how we feel about the Schmallenberg virus as we will not know if our flock had been bitten by the midges carrying the virus until our flock start lambing in two weeks time. We remain positive and relieved that there is no risk to human health and very grateful for all the support we have been shown. We have written a blog (our diary) about it all http://www.camillaandroly.blogspot.com
Our Lambing weekends are fast approaching which we run jointly with our landlords the Earth Trust, there will be lots to see and do, from learning about our sheep flock, having a ride on the tractor and trailer, climbing the giant straw bale barn, craft activities, refreshments . . . and hopefully even seeing a lamb being born!
When – 24th & 25th March and 31st March & 1st AprilTime – 10am – 4pm
Cost – Family £12 (2 adults and up to 2 children), Adult £5, Child £2.
Where – Earth Trust Farm, Little Wittenham, Abingdon, Oxon OX14 4QZ

Please come along, we would love to see you and do come and say hello on the day.

Markets take up Mary Portas’s idea of National Market Day
Mary Portas recently made recommendations to the government about what can be done to improve our town centres and high streets. Her idea for a National Market Day has been enthusiastically embraced by the markets industry who are going ahead with the idea during the period 23rd June – 8th July this year. They are encouraging local market operators to establish a National Market Day during this period to accommodate the fact that markets are held on different days in different areas.
The aim is to make more people aware of local markets, especially those starting up a new business. Community Secretary, Eric Pickles, had these words of encouragement: ‘The best markets plaly a crucial role in community life and the local economy. Whether run by farmers or fashionistas – they can draw shoppers to the area and are a fantastic testing ground for budding entrepreneurs.’
